Alchemy of Touch

We, all of us, value touch among so many other things as a kind of currency that heals and sustains. In particular, over these past few years, after a kind of coma of isolation, we have rediscovered the value of interconnected wisdom. We fight for what we want and need in ways that have eluded us in the past. Some people apply this need to common sense and a sense of entitlement to receive what makes us feel better. It is an important change in how we interact with the world around us.

In many ways, that incorporation of life balance away from tedium and work, will need a counter, but it moves us in the right direction. A pendulum must swing to both ends of the spectrum before it finally rests in balance at the center. Our cultural contract, society, is a Commune of Expectation where we require guidelines for living together. It is a price we pay in public that allows us to have rules of engagement and civility.

At times these expectations are tested, rules are adjusted, people break them or excite them, but at their core, we seek interactions that fulfill us and propel us onward. This can work interpersonally, or on grander, societal scale.

Touch is one of those interactions. I could say that the fact there is projected growth of close to 30% over the next 8 years is proof, or that we intrinsically know the value of touch, from a mother’s hug, kisses on scrapes, a gentle hand on the shoulder, or a moment of knead - dad joke intended - but the truth is that there is an Alchemy in Touch that provides healing. Our emotional self, and physical self are connected by, and perhaps dependent upon, our energetic self, that, all together, they influence our physical health, hormonal activity, even our self-esteem.

The meditative modalities of Ayurvedic practices, giving birth to Polarity Therapy and to some extent, Craniosacral bodywork in the West, are fundamental parts of the industry of massage. As such, the healing waters, herbal oil infusions, gentle massage and calming breath work of Prana Yama, can bring on an emotional balance and healing on a personal level. Growth in the industry, public understanding and acceptance have brought Massage into a new golden age of awareness.

As a part of this industry, and with an eye forward to the greater changes to come, personally, practically and in health, Myopothecary looks forward to sharing these services, concepts and products with you in the years to come.
